Do you offer Videography in addition
to Photography? Where
are you located? We are in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
between Harvard and Central Squares, easily accessible by public transportation
as well as by car. We are located only five minutes walk from the Red Line Central
Square train station. What is your
style, and what is Wedding Photojournalism?
Our style is a combination of photojournalism and traditional photography.
Wedding Photojournalism, also known as Documentary
Wedding Photography is very different from traditional photography.
It is based on documenting the story of your wedding day. A traditional wedding
photographer will spend a few hours taking formal portraits of everyone all dressed
up along with a few candid shots. A wedding photojournalist will spend many hours
with you on your wedding day, watching for those special moments you will want
to remember, with the camera ready to shoot. Your photographs will not be staged,
or posed (except the formals), but rather the photographer who will not interfere
in the moment, will creatively record them. Therefore, your photojournalistic
pictures will show true reactions and real emotions that cannot be captured in
formal portraits alone. We feel that “formals” are a very
important part of recording your wedding day, in addition to the photojournalistic
story telling. We will add formals to the reportage according to your tastes and
requests. Formals can be taken before or after the ceremony, or a combination
of both.
How much time do you
spend at a wedding?
As we have noted in the pricing
section, we spend up to eight hours at your wedding day, which
in most cases is enough to capture your day completely and
adequately. Each wedding requires an average of 30-40 hours
to complete, including planning meetings, photography, proofing,
and album design and order fulfillment.
Is there a limit to
the numbers of photographs you take?
No, there is no limit to the numbers of photographs we take.
We shoot whatever is necessary to record your wedding in a
creative and unobtrusive way. Generally we take between 1000
to 1500 images at a wedding by two photographers.
We feel that two photographers and this number of images are
essential for a pool of high quality images to make a memorable
album. Please visit the Prices section
of this website for more description.
Do
you take black and white photographs? Yes. We
do black and white photography, especially if you request it. Black and white
has a timeless quality and can be very appealing for formal photographs. Just
let us know how many photographs you would like in B/W.
When will my proofs
be ready?
You will receive the optional proof magazine, which is yours
to keep; ready approximately four weeks after your wedding.
There is an additional charge of $ 200 for all of the 400
to 500 images printed out.
What is a proof magazine and
what is the difference between a proof and a final print?
A proof magazine is a spiral bound book with previews (proofs) of photographs
arranged chronologically from your wedding day. Each proof is labeled. A “proof”
is an unfinished print and no attention is given to the individual characteristic
of the photograph. A final print is from a negative that has been analyzed for
composition and color correctness and then printed to its maximum potential. Do
you put proofs online and how do I order prints?
Yes, we put all your proofs online in a password-protected directory where
your friends and family may view them and place orders directly. You can order
prints online, or by phone using your proof magazine. Your relatives and friends
can order online as well, so you will not have to gather all of the picture orders.
There is no limit to the number of orders that can be placed. This means you do
not have to wait for everyone to choose their prints and place one large order.
Each person can place his or her own individual order. Can
I have my negatives? Yes, you may purchase your
negatives which are in the form of a photo CD or DVD at a slight extra charge.
These are your permanent records from which you can make future prints.
What kind of albums do you make?
We use moderate to higher priced albums, depending upon your preferences.
Some examples are: Art Leather, Leather Craftsmen, and Renaissance, to name a
few. However there is no obligation on your part to buy any prints or albums. Who
owns the copyright to the photographs? According
to Federal law, images produced by a professional photographer are copyrighted
the moment they are created. Federal law prohibits copying or reproducing copyrighted
material without permission from the owner of the copyright (the photographer).
Do you travel, and if
so, do you charge a travel fee?
We are available to travel almost anywhere. There is no travel
fee within an hour of driving distance from Boston. Even
outside of the metro Boston area, we may waive any travel
fees.
Are the bride and groom expected
to arrange for meals for the photographer(s)?
Our business is to work at the wedding. However we are there for a long time,
working hard, and we would appreciate if some arrangements were made for our meals.
We need to be there for the entire wedding and the reception, and therefore do
no take time off for meals. How do
we arrange for a meeting with you? We offer
a no-obligation consultation; please contact
us to arrange for a meeting. We recommend that you view our website
before meeting with us. You can find the answers to most of your questions there,
and it will also better familiarize you with our services. That way, you will
know what questions to ask us when we meet. How
do we hire you? After discussing your
photography needs, we will present our contract and go over it with you. One half
of our coverage fee is due as a retainer at the time of signing the contract;
this will reserve your date. The balance will be due 30 days before the wedding.
Any albums purchased are paid for at the time of ordering. If
I am having a videographer, why should I have a photographer also (and vice versa)?
Video and photography are two entirely different media; they do not compete
with each other, but rather compliment each other. Video features sound and movement,
dancing, and the ability to hear your vows spoken again. Photographs, on the other
hand, can be framed, hung on the wall or arranged in a keepsake album that can
be easily viewed over and over. Do
you offer Videography in addition to Photography?
Yes. Our studio offers both photography and videography. Please visit the
videography
section of our site. With A Fine Image you have the advantage of our team
working together for you. When you have a videographer and a photographer from
different companies, sometimes they have to concern themselves with staying out
of each other’s way. We are experienced in working as a team to give you
the best photographs and video.
